Privacy Policy
PIN IT! is a geography trivia game. We built it to be fun and private. This page explains, in plain language, what data the app touches and why.
THE SHORT VERSION
We don't collect personal information about you. There are no third-party analytics, no ad networks, no trackers. Your profile and stats live on your device. When you play multiplayer or submit a Daily Challenge score, we send only your chosen display name, chosen flag emoji, and score to our server, never anything that could identify you. If you use the friends leaderboard, your device also gets a random ID and a short friend code so your friends' boards know which score is yours. Neither is connected to your real identity.
WHAT WE STORE ON YOUR DEVICE
The app saves the following locally in your phone's app storage:
- The display name and flag emoji you picked
- Your game stats (games played, best distance, streaks, achievements)
- Your custom questions if you created any
- Your settings (notifications, Gold Mode, Drink Mode confirmation)
- Whether you unlocked the Premium in-app purchase
- A local cache of the question bank
Uninstalling the app removes all of this. We never see it.
WHAT WE STORE ON OUR SERVER
Our server (hosted on Railway in the EU) receives and stores the following:
- Daily Challenge leaderboard: your display name, flag emoji, and score, kept for 24 hours and then deleted. Refreshes at 9:00 AM Amsterdam time.
- Multiplayer rooms: your display name and flag emoji are held in memory only for the duration of the game and discarded when the room closes. The one exception is a moderation report, see below.
- Friends: if you use the friends leaderboard, a random ID for your device, your friend code, your display name and flag, and the list of people you have added. See Friends below.
- Gameplay records: when you finish a game we store which questions you were shown, how far your guesses landed from the answers, your score, and the random ID your device generated. We use this to find questions that are pinned in the wrong place, and to count how many people come back. It is not linked to your name or your flag, and it is deleted after 90 days.
- Daily Challenge totals: we keep a count of how many people finished each day's challenge, and the average and best score for that day. These are numbers only, with no names, flags, device IDs or individual scores attached, so they are kept once the personal details above are deleted.
We never store your IP address, your device's advertising or hardware identifiers, your email address, or your contacts. We do not build user profiles across sessions.
MODERATION AND REPORTS
Custom questions you write and use in a multiplayer room are sent to every player in that room. Before you can share them for the first time, the app asks you to agree to this.
If a player in your room submits a report, we store the following as a moderation record:
- the display names of the player who reported and the player reported
- the room code, the number of players, and the stated reason
- the text of any custom questions used in that game
We keep these records so we can review reports and act on them, which app store rules require us to be able to do. Unlike ordinary gameplay data, moderation records are not automatically deleted after 90 days. We also log when a question is automatically blocked by our content filter, or when a host removes a player from a room.
If you would like a moderation record concerning you removed, email [email protected].
FRIENDS
The friends leaderboard has no accounts. The first time you open the Friends tab, your device creates a random ID for itself and our server gives you a short friend code. From then on we store that ID and code, your display name and flag so friends can see who you are, the list of people you have added, and your Daily Challenge score for today so it can appear on their board.
Adding someone is one-way. It shows them your name, flag and today's score, and nothing else. You can remove a friend at any time.
The ID lives on your device. If you delete the app, or clear your browser data on the web, it is gone and your friends list goes with it. We cannot restore it, because there is no account behind it. That is the trade for not asking you to sign up.
Your friend record stays on our server until you ask us to remove it. Email [email protected] and we will delete it, along with any friend entries pointing at you.
WHAT WE DO NOT DO
- We do not use third-party analytics (no Google Analytics, no Firebase, no Mixpanel).
- We do not show advertising.
- We do not sell or rent your data to anyone. The only company we share anything with is RevenueCat, and only to check purchases, see In-App Purchases below.
- We do not track you across other apps or websites.
IN-APP PURCHASES
The optional Premium unlock is processed by Apple's App Store. We never see your card details or Apple ID, Apple handles the payment itself.
We use a service called RevenueCat to check that a purchase is genuine and to remember that you own it, including when you reinstall the app. RevenueCat receives the purchase receipt from Apple, an anonymous ID for your device, and the country of your App Store account. It never receives your name, your email address, or any payment details. You can read how they handle data at revenuecat.com/privacy.
PUSH NOTIFICATIONS
The app can send a local reminder each morning about the Daily Challenge. This runs entirely on your device. You can turn it off at any time in Settings, or through your phone's system notification settings.
CHILDREN'S PRIVACY
PIN IT! is rated for ages 4 and up. Drink Mode is protected by an in-app age gate that requires confirmation that the user is 18 or older. We do not knowingly collect any personal data from anyone.
CHANGES TO THIS POLICY
If we change how the app or server handles data, we'll update this page and adjust the "Last updated" date at the top. Meaningful changes will also be announced in the app.
